A Little Update

Oh hi!
Hey there!

So I have clearly been absent from my blog for months and months! I'm really sorry about that. I have really missed writing and sharing all about my life with you!

In a nutshell, I have made a lot of changes in the past few months while also ending up in the same spot. In June, I left my job at SNAP Newspapers to head back to Golden Lake Camp. They had a great directing position available last minute and I couldn't pass it up (especially since I had been looking for work unsuccessfully for a little while).
Me and a couple of my fellow directors, Luke and Melissa, atop Blueberry Mountain
I worked all summer as Golden Lake's CIT Director, putting together and running a training program for 14-16-year-old potential counselors. I also helped out with other director duties and had a wonderful summer spending time with campers and getting to know the staff. It was kind of a rash decision to make, leaving my salary-paying, benefit-yielding full-time job in my field to work at a summer camp for about half as much money… but it was totally worth it. I'm pretty sure it was God thing.

Anyway, since leaving camp in August, I've found myself a great part-time job running an after school program in Flemingdon Park, Toronto. I spent quite a while looking for an apartment downtown, but after reevaluating my finances and the logistics of commuting from Newmarket, I've decided to live with my parents for one more year. I get along with them just fine, so I know it will be a good year. Also, I'm really only working about 3-4 hours a day, so I need to find another part-time job here in Newmarket. I have taken my resume into a few coffee shops in town, so here's hoping I find something soon.

Another change in my life is that I've made the decision to go back to school. Today, I began my application process to teacher's college! It's a bit scary, especially since the application process is so expensive. I have been a bit uneasy about my future for the past couple of years. I thought I might like to teach design to highschool kids, but in order to do that, I need more industry experience. But after spending a summer hanging out with kids of all ages, I figured out that 8-year-olds are pretty cool. So I'm applying to the Primary/Junior programs at York, The University of Ottawa, U of T and OUIT.

As for this blog, it's going to go through some changes too. I am going to add a bit of structure (partly to motivate myself and partly to motivate my readership :p). There are a few things I am going to be thinking over and experiencing this next year that I am going to share with you.

You see, I'm turning 25 next summer. That's a terrifying prospect for me. 25 is almost 30. And 30 is actual adult-hood.  Although I am very satisfied with my varied life experiences so far, there is still a lot I would like to accomplish and enjoy. So I thought I would put together a 'Before I Turn 25' list and attempt to complete each task before next July 30… and write all about it. I'm going to share these experiences on 'Before 25 Tuesdays'.

Also, I will be working with kids. And kids say the darndest things, don't they? I know that I am going to hear some hilarious things come out of the mouths of the 6-12 year olds in my care— and I'll post them here for you to enjoy on 'Kid Quote Thursdays'. If you like hearing funny things kids say, you should check out 'Smacksy'.

And that's all the structure I can handle for the moment, so… goodnight!
